Cagess!!
When getting cages I would recommend a cage without bars (however cages with bars are ok, you just reduce the risk of the hamster hurting it's self, seeings as it could try and climb or bite on bars). A good idea would be to get a large fish tank or you can order a cage from online (making cages can be a good option however if depending on what you want you may need to be more experienced) The cage MUST be at least 100cm by 50cm or larger. The bigger the better.
Another good thing you can do is DIY a cage but that can be difficult so it's not recommended for any new owners or anyone without hamster care experiance. To DIY a cage you can make something like this (It's called a bin cage):
You need:
- A plastic container (with no holes or sharp points).*
- A knife or sharp sissors (anything that will cut plastic).
- Metal mesh, like what you find in a rabbit or guinnea pig cage.
*You can buy bins from places that sell storage units or even a local supermarket like tesco (uk) or target (USA), just make sure it's at least half a metre by one metre and around a metre tall.
instructions:
Using a knife or sharp object carfully cut a rectangle into the lid of the bin,
